"The family dynamic makes this story as powerful as Cormac McCarthy at moments and the brutal realism of the prose is bleak but impactful.

...a timely, troubling, and memorable novel."

- Self-Publishing Review, John Staughton

Meet The Author

Tom Schneider

Hey, thanks for coming by!

I'm living and writing from South Jersey, outside of Philadelphia – with my three kids.

Below is part of a recent interview I did.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.

I started about twenty different books, but Escape the Future is my first completed full length novel. It began as a series of novellas and then I rewrote it as a standalone. Prior to that I wrote about a half-dozen screenplays, the first one while living unemployed in Moscow, Russia. That story I hope to rewrite in novel form.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?

Escape The Future was inspired by a health scare that left me wondering about my kids surviving alone after a calamitous event of some kind. I also had recently read The Road. Those two experiences kind of combined and together compelled me to complete it.

What authors, or books have influenced you?

One of the first books I fell in love with was 1984. After reading that I read everything of Orwell’s I could get my hands on. The Game of Thrones books were an amazing journey, that I’m glad I took before the show came out, though I’ve really enjoyed that too. Most recently, I found Blake Crouch’s Dark Matter mind-blowing.

What are you working on now?

I’m working on a novel that takes place in the late 1970’s about a Vietnam War vet and chef who experiences incidents taking him to a violent alternate reality. When the First Lady of the United States comes to the restaurant he's working at, on a campaign stop, he faces the choice of saving her from an assassination attempt or figuring out what’s happening to him and realizing his dream.
